Rectal prolapse is the protrusion of the rectum (the last section of the bowel) outside the anus. It is a completely different condition from hemorrhoids. This condition, which causes fecal incontinence, chronic straining, and significantly affects quality of life, can be permanently treated with surgery.
Rectal prolapse cannot be corrected with exercise or medication — the only definitive treatment is surgery.
The rectum is fixed from inside the abdomen. Through small abdominal incisions, the prolapsed bowel is pulled up and fixed to the bony tissue. Fast recovery and the lowest recurrence risk.
Preferred in elderly or high-risk patients. The prolapsed bowel is removed or narrowed through the anus. Lower anesthesia risk since no abdominal intervention is needed.
In hemorrhoids, only vascular cushions prolapse; in rectal prolapse, the entire bowel wall protrudes. Only a specialist can distinguish between them on examination.
Incontinence problems caused by prolapse generally improve significantly after a successful operation.
The surgery cost varies depending on the method and length of hospital stay. Contact us for detailed information.
